Drought

It's official. We have reached the point of drought warnings in our area.  It just so happens that this weather condition occurs the same year that I plant our first real vegetable garden and vow only to use rain water to water the garden. Apparently I didn't read the 2012 Farmer's Almanac.

We started with one rain barrel in the spring...then got another one installed in time to catch some rain in our last rain fall a couple of weeks ago (if you could call it rain).  Today we emptied the last drops from our rain barrels and used a our first bucket of  town water on our veggies. Last week I started to get nervous about the lack of rain fall and started placing a bucket in the bottom of the shower to catch water as we bathe.  This has helped, but not enough.  Our current rain barrels will catch 280L of water, plus, Husband has positioned empty garbage pails along the eves to catch rain water as well. I would say we need another rain barrel, but with no rain to fill it, I don't see that this would be helpful. Here's hoping for some rain...really soon.

That's a genius idea! I've never thought about trying to recapture the shower water. Living in the desert, that sounds like the perfect plan.

We're at stage 2 drought conditions now. Yikes. Animals are acting strange. How IS the garden faring?
