At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge. Goldilocks was hungry. She tasted the porridge from the Poppa bear's bowl.
"This porridge is too hot!" she exclaimed.
So, she tasted the porridge from the Boy bear's bowl.
"This porridge is too cold," she said
So, she tasted the last bowl of porridge, Momma bear's.
"Ahhh, this porridge is just right, nicely spiced and aromatic. I especially enjoy the raisins." she said happily and she ate it all up.
After she'd eaten the three bears' breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired (Poppa bear's and Boy bear's porridge was cross contaminated and the gluten made her sleepy.). .......
Sorry. I read Goldilocks and the Three Bears to Son this past week. I also made this delicious Sweet Apple Spice Quinoa Porridge recently. Put the two together with a slightly exhausted gluten free mom and you get the above twist on a classic story.
1 cup quinoa
2 cups apple juice
1/4 cup raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Place all ingredients in a medium sized pot and cook on medium heat until the apple juice has been absorbed by the quinoa.
I especially liked this porridge served with a bit of almond yogurt instead of milk and drizzled with agave. This recipe made enough to serve me a generous portion every morning for 4-5 days and kept well in the fridge sealed in a container.
